Transforming Team Culture and Motivation at Taylor & Martin
Taylor & Martin provide a hands-on, personal property management service for homeowners across Scotland. With a strong team culture already in place, they saw an opportunity to step back and explore what drives people at their best, strengthening motivation, connection and shared purpose across the business. The ambition was to give individuals greater insight into what energises them, create a shared understanding across the team, and support the conditions for sustained performance and service excellence.
The Challenge
Taylor & Martin operates in a busy, client-focused environment where energy, engagement and team connection matter. While the team was already committed and working well together, there was an opportunity to step back from day-to-day delivery and create space for reflection and development.
Common themes included:
- Understanding what motivates different individuals within the team
- Strengthening collaboration and mutual support
- Creating a shared language for motivation and purpose
- Helping people feel energised, valued and connected in their roles
There was a clear opportunity to build on what was already strong, and make it even more intentional.
The Motivation Journey
Taylor & Martin partnered with us to deliver a focused half-day session centred on motivation and team insight, grounded in real working relationships and day-to-day experience.
The programme included:
- Motivational Maps Profiles – Each participant completed an individual motivation profile in advance, providing personalised insight into their top motivators and what helps them thrive at work
- Interactive Team Session – The session created space for open discussion, reflection and shared learning, helping colleagues understand both themselves and one another more clearly
- Practical Motivation Strategies – Participants explored simple, actionable ways to sustain motivation, strengthen satisfaction at work, and support each other more effectively as a team
This was not about adding complexity, but about creating clarity around what drives people, individually and collectively.
What Changed
As the session progressed, participants described gaining a new perspective on what motivates them, and how this can shift over time.
Key reflections included:
- Greater awareness of personal motivators and drivers
- Stronger understanding of colleagues and team dynamics
- A renewed sense of purpose and motivation at work
- Practical steps to apply insight day to day
The session also created a valuable pause from routine, giving the team space to reflect, reconnect and learn together.
The Impact
The session created an immediate shift in how the team talked about motivation, purpose and what helps people perform at their best. Participants described gaining a fresh perspective on their own drivers, as well as a deeper understanding of what motivates colleagues across the business.
The result was a stronger sense of connection, shared awareness and practical insight that the team can carry into day-to-day working relationships and client delivery.
For Taylor & Martin, this reinforces the strength of a motivated, collaborative team delivering excellent service for clients.
As Michael Martin, Director, shared afterwards:
“It’s exactly what we were looking for and really got all the team thinking. We went out for a curry after, and everyone was absolutely buzzing.”
Looking Ahead
The session has created a strong foundation for Taylor & Martin to continue investing in motivation, development and team culture as part of how they work. By strengthening understanding of what drives people, Taylor & Martin is reinforcing the commitment, connection and purpose that underpins excellent service and a thriving workplace.
